It has been a very busy past couple of weeks for Giovanni and me. We began our childbirth Lamaze classes recently and we have been learning a lot. Almost all our free time is filled with preparations for Scarlette. I have been feeling super tired lately and it is taking longer to get each task done but I am enjoying the work! She will be here soon!
About two weeks ago my good friend Karin threw us a baby shower to celebrate Scarlette’s pending arrival. The decorations were absolutely adorable and I just loved all the effort she put into each detail! There was a lot of baby advice and laughter shared and it was wonderful to see everyone. I had lots of fun and it was a very special day that I will always remember.
I also had the opportunity to have a casting done of my 36 week tummy by my birth doula, Kathryn. It was a messy but super fun experience! Giovanni and I each placed one of our hands on my belly to form a heart. It will be a great memento to look back on and be able to see a life-sized casting of my pregnant belly!
Last week when I was at my regular pre-natal checkup I was attended by the nurse practitioner. I had some questions for my OB and so I asked about when I might be able to chat with her. The nurse told me that she was not available and would actually no longer be able to oversee my care for the duration of the pregnancy or the delivery, because she wouldn’t be back until late February! Well, needless to say, that was some unexpected news!
Despite it appearing to be a setback, the Lord used it for good. I was referred to a new doctor who is part of the Fresno Women’s Medical Group and she is fabulous. I met with her this week and we really connected. I feel very comfortable with her and I think we are a better match than my previous OB. The Women’s Medical Group is also extremely women-friendly and I love the atmosphere. They have two locations and the one I went to is in a historical home in Downtown Fresno. It is a great environment!
At my appointment this week I also learned some wonderful news; Scarlette has rotated and settled into a head-down position which is just where she needs to be for her birth! That was exciting to hear. I have been noticing a bump sticking out the right top side of my belly, which I assumed correctly is her little bum. She is still moving quite actively and seems to be enjoying her last few weeks before she makes her grand entrance.
Today is my last day of work before my maternity leave begins. I am looking forward to a bit of time to finish up organizing the nursery and packing my hospital bag. Giovanni is getting excited and I know he will be an amazing coach on Scarlette’s birthday. It won’t be too much longer now!
